Important Board of Equalization Workshop!
ALERT: #51
DATE: Monday, July 5, 2004
TO: Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners
FROM: Nevada Property Tax Revolt Committee
Dear Fellow Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners,
WHO: The Washoe County Board of Equalization
WHAT: First in a series of workshops dealing with the education of property owners on the jurisdiction and the appeal process of the County Board of Equalization. An important part of the discussion will include how the Assessors will apply the new Permanent Regulations recently adopted by the Nevada Tax Commission.
Click here download the complete Agenda:
WHERE: 1502 WASHINGTON STREET, RENO, NEVADA - SAN RAFAEL ROOM, RANCHO SAN RAFAEL RANCH HOUSE. Click here for a map to the workshop location.
WHEN: Thursday July 8th 2004. 9am to 12 noon
WHY: The Chairman, Steve Sparks, and the Board have agreed to conduct a series of workshops to explain the methods that are to be used by the B of E and the Assessor. The new Permanent Regulations are going to require considerable change in the methods used to appraise property in Washoe County and the State of Nevada. There is still nothing simple about the new regulations and property tax law in Nevada and it is important for everyone involved to have a clear understanding of the rules of the game going forward.
We have three new members of the Board of Equalization one of which is Ina Haupt from Incline Village. We also have a new Chairman, Steve Sparks, plus a repeat member from last years Board Gary Schmidt. This essentially new Board, we believe that for the first time, will be truly impartial and not dominated by the bias of people from the Assessors office.
It is sometimes difficult for taxpayers from IV/CB to attend these workshops, due to the time and effort required to drive to Reno and be there by 9AM but we strongly urge you to attend this and future workshops if at all possible. We have requested of Chairman Sparks that some of these workshops be conducted in IV and hope that the County Board will agree. We will keep you informed of any upcoming workshops but in the meantime, please make every effort to attend this one.
Sincerely,
Ted
