My Refund – When?

Dear Incline Village & Crystal Bay Property Owners,

Washoe County has now issued some 2,600 refunds of excess taxes plus interest.  Current residents, who submitted claims have been paid, and the County will continue processing claims in the order in which they were received.  That includes processing claims by current residents who owned a former Incline Village/Crystal Bay home between 2003 and 2005.

 
The Treasurer’s website also recently launched a new feature to provide taxpayers awaiting their refund with a claim status report that estimates refund payment timeframes.  The report can be accessed here Claim Status <https://www.washoecounty.gov/treas/ivcbclaims/Claims%20Status.php>.  The report displays claim numbers to be paid within the next 60 days.  It is updated the first of every month. Your claim number appears in the County’s claim acknowledgement email. 

 
The agreement requires the County to pay at least 300 claims per month.  By comparing the distance between claim numbers being paid soon to your own number you can guesstimate the time your refund will arrive.

 
One more thing.  All recipients with interest payment amounts in excess of $600 will receive a 1099-INT form that advises you and the IRS of potential income tax liability from the payment.

 
If you dislike the idea of paying income tax on your refund, you might consider donating it to a charitable cause.  The Village League is also grateful to those who have donated proceeds from their refunds to our ongoing efforts to safeguard the fair taxation we fought so hard for. There is still much to accomplish, and if you’re planning a philanthropic tax-deductible donation we would appreciate your consideration to help the Village League protect our victories and continue our role supporting our community.


As an additional reminder, there are still some taxpayers who have yet to make a claim for their property tax refund! If you have not made a claim, please do so soon!  We cannot help you secure the refund you’re entitled to unless you make a claim.
